DLC finish - diamond hardness
2. září 2024
Blade finishes and coatings are becoming increasingly popular in knife manufacturing. Mikov uses two types of these coatings - Cerakote and DLC, or Diamond-Like Carbon. DLC has unique properties and is popular not only for knives, but especially in industry wherever high wear and corrosion resistance is required.
The DLC coating is really hard, almost like a diamond. At the same time, it has a low coefficient of friction, provides protection against corrosion and aggressive chemicals, and can withstand high temperatures without losing its properties. And, as a bonus, it looks very good and elegant.
Thanks to all these properties, the DLC coating from the automotive, engineering and aerospace industries has quickly found its way into the cutlery industry. It has only one drawback. Despite advances in nanotechnology, DLC coating is still not a cheap affair. That's why Mikov uses DLC coating on knives, which are among the premium products.
The first knife Mikov used DLC on was the Predator Blackout. It was followed by the Pocket gentleman's knife , the Taurus tank knife , and the Project War Veteran knives Storm and Golak. The DLC coating will also be on the upcoming exclusive Safari series of hunting knives.
If you choose a Mike's knife with the DLC coating, you'll not only get excellent corrosion protection along with it, but also the assurance that it won't get scratched or ruined, even if you're carrying it in your pocket along with keys and metal objects, for example. After years of use, all Pocket S knife owners who wear it on their key ringcan attest to this.
